Find Out How Fast the Creek is Flowing with City QR Codes

The city of Boulder has installed QR Code smartphone scan points on the foot bridges over Boulder Creek near the Municipal Campus. People with an iPhone or an Android device, can scan the code to see the web-based stream gauge in that area, and learn how fast the creek is running. This is a pilot project to test QR Code technology and increase public awareness during flood season.

If you do not have QR Code scanning software on your smartphone, search your app store or market for free software options.

Be Straw Free Challenge

Downtown Burlington has issued a challenge to Downtown Boulder.  In the first-ever "BeStrawFree" Challenge between two downtown districts, each downtown is asking their eating and drinking establishments to offer patrons the option of whether or not to use a straw.  The downtown district with the most establishments participating by Wednesday, August 31, wins the challenge.

The competition is inspired by 9-year-old Milo Cress of Burlington, Vermont.  He started the campaign after reading that approximately 500 million disposable straws are used in the U.S. every day - enough, he says, to fill 46,400 school busses. Learn more about Milo Cress here.
