On August 30th, the City of Boulder has scheduled a full day of activities to celebrate the 30 years of success. The festivities start at 11:00 a.m. with the annual Tulip Bulb Giveaway. The world famous Pearl Street Mile starts at 6:00 p.m. followed by a free concert at 8:00 p.m. featuring the Richie Furay Band. Silvia Pettem, author of Positively Pearl Street, which chronicles the history of the mall, will be at the Boulder Bookstore signing copies of her book at 7:30 p.m.

Boulder Farmer’s Market is Zero Waste
Trash cans have been replaced by Zero Waste Stations at the Boulder County Farmers' Market. Everything available for consumption at the market is compostable or recyclable. Eco-Cycle has partnered with market vendors to find alternatives to packaging that were formerly landfilled. This initiative has helped the Boulder Farmers' Market to be the only zero waste market in the country.

SPOTLIGHT ON ...

Parking Pay and Display Stations Installation Begins Today!

Beginning today, 140 new “pay and display” parking pay stations will replace aging city of Boulder parking meters in downtown Boulder and in the Pennsylvania Street lot in the University Hill business district. Today marks phase one of the installation, with 50 pay stations installed starting at downtown’s east end. Phase two will begin on Sept. 4 and will complete all of downtown and the Pennsylvania Street lot on the Hill.

The new pay stations offer multiple payment options including coins, tokens, debit/credit cards (Visa, Master Card and American Express) and pre-pay cards (coming soon). The city is continuing its five-minute grace period by not issuing tickets for overtime at meters within five minutes of valid expiration time.

Downtown, on-street parking rates and hours of enforcement will increase as the pay stations are installed. New rates will increase from $1 per hour to $1.25 per hour, and the hours of enforcement will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. This rate increase was approved by the Boulder City Council on Feb. 6.

“Meter greeters” wearing white T-shirts labeled “Ask me about Park, Pay and Display” will circulate throughout downtown during pay station installation, helping new users get over any first-time user-technology hurdles that may exist.
