Boulder Philharmonic Woodwind Quintet to perform children’s concert
this Sunday at the Boulder Public Library, Canyon Theater (1000 Canyon Blvd.
Boulder, Colo.— On Sunday, October 7th, 4 p.m., at the Boulder Public Library’s Canyon Theater (1000 Canyon Blvd.), the Boulder Philharmonic’s Classroom Concerts Woodwind Quintet will return for a new program designed to entertain and educate children about classical music. Families will also learn about the instruments of the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra's woodwind section. The quintet features the flute (Olga Shylayeva), oboe (Sarah Mellander), clarinet (Bronwyn Fraser), horn (Devon Park), and bassoon (Deb Torp).
With this concert, the public will be able to experience a “Classroom Concert,” one of the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra’s educational programs available to schools in the Boulder County area.
The Boulder Philharmonic Woodwind Quintet’s Classroom Concert has been well received by the schools in the area. Teresa Himel, Music Specialist at Ryan Elementary in Lafayette, commented, “Our students thoroughly enjoyed the performance this morning. I particularly liked how you showed each instrument and talked about its sound. Several students commented on which instrument they want to learn now. The students favorite part was the presentation of ‘Peter and the Wolf’ and hearing the music ‘for real’! I will highly recommend your ensemble to other schools. Thank you for performing for Ryan Elementary students.”
Free and open to the public, this family concert is made possible by grants in part by the Boulder Public Library, SCFD, and the American Federation for Musicians (AFM) from its Musicians Performance Fund.
