Boulder Public Library presents Peter Sellers Retrospective The Prisoner of Zenda
Directed by Richard Quine, with Peter Sellers, Lynne Frederick, Lionel Jeffries, Elke Sommer (1979). While flying in a hot air balloon, an accident with a champagne cork sends the reigning monarch of the tiny nation of Ruritania plummeting to his death. The rightful heir is kidnapped by the next in line for the throne. A London taxi-driver who closely resembles the kidnapped heir is found to impersonate the monarch-to-be, and falls in love with the prince’s fiancée. This film, in which Sellers plays multiple roles, is a comic version of the adventure novel by Anthony Hope first published in 1894. (108 min.)
