“Boulder's brilliance as a world-class recreation mecca is etched in stone as dramatically as the magnificent Flatirons rise from the rolling Colorado plains.

- David Iler, Cyberwest Magazine, “A separate reality thrives in Boulder, Colorado

It is nearly impossible to run out of outdoor activities in Boulder. From hiking to kayaking, there’s something for the outdoor lover in all of us. Within minutes, you can escape deep into one of Boulder’s spectacular canyons or climb 1,300 feet above the city to an altitude of nearly 7,000 feet on Flagstaff Mountain. The amazing outdoor opportunities Boulder has to offer are second to none.

Boulder Creek runs right through downtown Boulder. Children and adults can enjoy picnicking next to the creek and fishing, kayaking, tubing, or just splashing around in the clean Boulder Creek water. Running alongside Boulder Creek is the seven-mile-long Boulder Creek Path, which is great for walking, jogging, biking, and rollerblading. Stretching from the mountains of Boulder Canyon, through downtown Boulder, out into the plains, the Boulder Creek Path offers a great variety of views of Boulder.

There are many scenic spots perfect for picnics and hikes. The beautiful Boulder Canyon, ideal for picnics, rock climbing, hiking, mountain biking, or even just a scenic drive, begins only half a mile from downtown Boulder. Chautauqua, another popular hiking and picnicking spot, is just a mile and a half from downtown Boulder. Sitting at the base of Boulder’s famous Flatiron Mountains, Chautauqua offers spectacular views of these picturesque mountains. Just a few blocks past Chautauqua begins the famous road up Flagstaff Mountain where you can take in the breathtaking views of Boulder from 1,300 feet above the city.

Another famous Colorado attraction, Rocky Mountain National Park, is just 40 miles from Boulder (approximately a one hour drive). Simply take US-36 W (called 28th St in Boulder) through Estes Park into Rocky Mountain National Park.
