Battle of the Gods and Goddesses!
I’m pretty hit-or-miss when it comes to watching the Olympics every two years. What do I mean? I have my favorite events that I pay attention to, and the events that I don’t. In the Winter I love Bobsledding, Ski Jump, and Alpine Skiing. Why? Because they’re the best events in the Winter Olympics, Duh! But wait, the 2018 Winter Olympics isn’t for another two years, and right now we are in the middle of the 2016 Summer Olympics. I do not really enjoy any of the events that are popular to American audiences, such as the tennis, volleyball, basketball etc. I enjoy the sports that do not get as much televised attention. I absolutely love the thrill of watching the swimming (both the races and diving), rugby, and track and field, (specifically the 100M dash). There’s been a high amount of anticipation since the last summer Olympics four years ago. Therefore I’ve come up with multitude of places to watch this year’s Olympics right here in Downtown Boulder!
Saturday and Sunday are the sprinting portion for this year’s Olympics (Saturday is the women, and Sunday is the men) and it’s time to see if Usain Bolt is going to break his own record for a third year in a row!

1) Tuesday may be one of the most exhilarating events of the whole 16 day event. One of the most decorated athletes representing the U.S. in the Olympics, and maybe THE best Olympian of all time, Michael Phelps is racing today. Looking to redeem his one of two silvers from the last games in the 200M Butterfly. This iconic race calls for a place that has an amazing atmosphere, as well as good deals. I’m going to be diving into some .45 cent wings at the Lazy Dog, as I struggle to fathom how a human can move so fast in the water, and then wash it down with some of their $3 happy hour beer (you would never know I was an Ex-Division 1 athlete). I feel another gold coming to the U.S. tonight, let's keep the golds coming in!
2) I need a good deal on a drink when I’m watching these races! The 100M Dash IS the best event during the Olympics. Why would someone not want to see someone push the limits on how fast a human can run? Connor O’neill’s has $3 appetizers and drinks from 3-7pm daily. You can catch me this weekend taking full advantage of this deal, come grab 1..2...or 8 drinks with me and help me cheer the U.S. on! Time to add to the U.S. medal count!
3) Rugby is the closest Olympic Sport to America’s most popular sport, football. Although the U.S. seems to have football on lock, rugby not nearly so much. Tuesday is all about the Women; the Australian and New Zealand Women's Rugby team will be competing for a Gold medal today. I figured since the U.S. is not competing for gold why not take it a little easier than our past two spots. The Attic offers a low key setting and a great deal on their select appetizers, as well as their $3 Fat Alberts. This is the first time since the 1924 games that Rugby will be played at the Olympics, let’s support the comeback!
I’m excited for another year of patriotism as we cheer on the U.S. in all of these athletic events! I’ll see you at one of the above listed destinations! Go USA!
