Boulder International Film Festival (Part 1)
Alright readers, what’s the number one rule of entertainment? Give the people what they want. And that is exactly what I intend on doing here in this blog. As most of you know, the Boulder International Film Festival (BIFF) will be held here in town March 3-6 attracting more than 25,000 film enthusiasts, media and industry personnel each year. It even draws some of film’s most talented artists to Boulder for the event (get your autograph books ready). Now, ya’ll are very lucky because I just happen to live with one of the interns for the Boulder International Film Festival. Here is the inside scoop from my roommate on her experience working with and preparing for BIFF. (This section is followed by a “part 2” in order to give you event information and details.)
Q: In your own words, describe the Boulder International Film Festival?
A: The festival is an opportunity for the community to come together to meet filmmakers and watch amazing independent films.
Q: Take me through a day in the life of a BIFF intern.
A: When I go to work, the first thing I do is check what is assigned to me for the day. Then I usually work on editing footage from shoots we’ve done during the week. After I’m done editing footage, I usually meet with the Global Town Hall Team and plan out what we are doing next for the production.
Q: Intern to intern, what’s been your favorite part being involved with BIFF?
A: I love the Global Town Hall Team. We are all very communicative with each other and also have a lot of fun working together. We have a lot of good ideas and are excited about what we are doing.
Q: Tell me more about this Global Town Hall project that you won’t stop talking about at home?
A: Global Town Hall is an event during the festival where filmmakers, accomplished individuals, and the community come together to talk about the power of film in inciting change. Every year, Global Town Hall is based off of a call to action film. This year, the film is called CODE. It is about the huge gender gap that exists in the tech world. There will be a group of panelists on stage who will talk about the film and why they think there is a gender gap in that particular work environment.
Q: If you could play favorites and pick a film, event, or person that will be featured at the festival, what would choice be?
A: I would have to pick Bruce Dern because he is such an accomplished actor. I want to talk to him about his role in the film Django Unchained, because I am a huge fan of Quentin Tarantino movies. I want to hear about his experience on set and what it was like to work with Quentin as his director. Also CineCHEF is going to be an awesome event. It is a competition between the best chefs in Boulder so it goes without saying that there will be a lot of good food there for the festival-goers at different taste-stations!
Q: If you have one thing you would want people to know about the Boulder International Film Festival, what would that be?
A: That it’s not just about watching movies; there is so much more to it. There are so many different things you can experiences at the festival such as CineCHEF, the ceremonies on the opening and closing nights, filmmaker lounges where VIP guests can meet filmmakers, zombie makeup tents, and those are only a few examples.
