Can I Be the Tulip Fairy?

Posted on April 27, 2012

When I first learned about the Tulip Fairy and Elf Parade, I found it very hard to talk about it with a straight face.  I mean, what does a tulip fairy look like and where do you find elves in April? I have been an avid Pearl Street Mall go-er for four years now, but never was I aware of this tremendous event until earlier this year.  But now that I know, I cannot stop talking about it.

The Tulip Fairy and Elf Parade happens this Saturday, April 28 at 3p.m. on the 1300 block of Pearl Street. It is a collaboration of bright colors, positive attitudes and a bunch of kids unleashing their goofy and creative sides.  The parade is meant to signify the start of the tulip season, as the Tulip Fairy and even a few stilt-walkers welcome the tulips as the tiny fairies and elves parade past. However, this year will be a bit of a belated welcoming as the tulips have been in bloom for awhile now, but the parade goes on! After the official blessing from the Tulip Fairy, the Open Space & Mountain Parks will commence the always exciting Waking the Bear ceremony.  I suggest you arrive to the mall early, because this is not only a parade, but there will also be face-painting, coloring, children’s activities, and of course, live music from the energetic duo Jeff Kagan and Paige Doughty.

Unless it’s pouring rain, the Tulip Fairy and Elf Parade will continue as scheduled; and with free parking in the City of Boulder parking garages on Saturdays and Sundays, what excuse do you have not to join in on this tulip jubilation?
