I've never liked coffee. I know, I know, it's a terrible thing for a Downtown Boulder dweller. But, before you get too upset about my choice of beverages, check out some fantastic summer non-java samples that my favorite coffee shops have to offer. These places are brewing up more than just your typical cup of joe.
My first stop was into Downtown's best kept secret, Amante. I hit a 10am rush and the homey, yet modern, shop on Walnut was packed. The friendly baristas handled the crowd with ease and I enjoyed my Blackberry Italian Soda with Cream immensely. I noticed a few floating eyes checking out my summer beverage, and per recommendation, will be getting blackberry with caramel next time. 10/10, would recommend.
Spruce Confections Dessert Bakery and Cafe
Spruce Confections reigns on the West End of Pearl away from the central hustle and bustle. Their outdoor patio is simple and romantic, ...and filled with customers. While waiting in line for my "Ruby Slipper," an herbal tisane with apple, blood orange flavor, hibiscus, papaya, and rose hips, the customer in front of me doted on the success of the cafe. "You guys are booming!" Walking away with a new summer drink, I couldn't agree more.
Ozo Coffee Co.
Ozo Coffee Co. is one of my favorites on Pearl Street. The warm staff are always ready to go and the shop has a creative energy. Cafe goers fill the shop with notebooks, laptops, and conversation. My barista was quick to recommend the Horchata Cholaca, a chilled beverage with agave nectar, coconut milk, vanilla, and cinnamon. Music to my non-coffee ears!
I'm a coffee shop lover, ...just not a coffee lover. I'd love to hear about your downtown favorites and find some new summertime sips.
