Friday, Friday, Friday!

Posted on April 14, 2011

Today is Thursday. And the status of the weather in Boulder has been moved from fake-snow to real snow. A little snow in April isn't terrible. It just gives us all one more chance to use our fireplaces and get a little more bang for our buck out of our $200.00 puffy jackets. Although there's real snow on the ground today, Boulder's bipolar forecast calls for sun and 60 degree weather for tomorrow; which is perfect weather for all of the events going on in Downtown tomorrow night. So enough chit-chat. I'll just get straight to the point. Eat, drink and drop your kids off with strangers in  Downtown for some fun this Friday!

1.) Art After Dark is happening from 7:00-11:00 p.m. tomorrow, at the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art. It's a chance for Boulder's Young Professionals to mix and mingle while enjoying cocktails by 303 vodka and beer by Avery Brewing, local cuisine, live music by a DJ, contemporary art and more. Tickets are only $45.00 each, and a ticket not only gets you into the event, but also gets you a gift bag and a one-year membership to BMoCA. So go ahead, get crazy, and mix a little business with pleasure tomorrow night.

2.) A series of outdoor Crab Boils at Jax Fish House kicks off tomorrow night. For $39.00 per person, enjoy fresh blue, dungeness and snow crab along with shrimp, andouille sausage, corn and potatoes. Jax is also offering drink specials for the night, so grab your friends and some wet naps, and reserve your space on Jax's patio for some tasty, messy grub.

3.) Local Table Tour's brings you the Downtown Dinging Walking Tour tomorrow starting at 3:00 p.m. Enjoy thoughtfully selected food and wine pairings as part of Downtown Boulder's gourmet food scene. Contact Local Table Tour's to reserve your space on the tour.

4.) Join the Boulder Bookstore for "Revival of the Classics!" tomorrow night. Bring your old classic books in for a book swap, participate in trivia and meet Erin Blakmore, a local Boulder author who will be speaking about classic Jane Austin characters and the importance they still hold today. I'm not going to lie. I'll admit that I've read every Jane Austin novel that has been published. I'm not ashamed. So this fun, literary party is right up my alley! Some of you may be a little skeptical about this event, and that's okay. Maybe if I tell you that attendees are encouraged to dress up as their favorite classics character, you might be sold! Who doesn't like wearing costumes in public!?

5.) Center Stage Live at One Boulder Plaza presents their music series, held every Friday at The Ribhouse. Liza Oxnard will be performing tomorrow night from 8:00-10:00 p.m. The music is free, but dinner is not. So you'll still need your wallets if you want to enjoy some killer ribs and a frosty beverage.

6.) Dark Star Orchestra is playing the Boulder Theater tomorrow night. It's been said that Dark Star Orchestra offers much more than the sound of the Grateful Dead, they truly encapsulate the energy and the experience. I was in grade school during the days of The Grateful Dead's epic tours, so for me, seeing a Grateful Dead cover band is the next best thing to missing the Dead play live. Grab your lighters and your dated concert tees, and get the Boulder Theater on Friday. You'll just love it man...

6.) For those of you that have little half-pints running around at home, I know what you're thinking. I'd love to get out on the town tomorrow night, but I can't find a babysitter?! What do I do. Simple. Drop your kids off from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Color Me Mine for a pajama and painting party. The nice people at Color Me Mine will not only watch your kids, but they'll feed them pizza and help them make pottery too. It's really a win-win for everyone. It's $10.00 per half-pint and that price includes the price of pottery. I know, there's no need to thank me. I'm here for you.
