Poetry is made out of words, and words are made out of sounds. In this three-hour workshop, we will read and write with special attention to the sounds that make up words. As infants and musicians know intuitively, sounds are not neutral, but have the potential to stir powerful emotions. Our goal will be to hone our ear, gaining a sharpened sense of what words can do by virtue of their sounds.
