Our string instrument students receive weekly private lessons and bi-monthly group lessons. They frequently perform in community concerts and our advanced students tour Costa Rica every other year. Upon graduation, BSS students continue to have music in their lives whether they go on to study at premier conservatories, prepare to be teachers themselves, double major with another specialty or pursue an entirely different field. No matter where their path leads them, our students enjoy music forever!

Tallgrass
Raised by wolves, taught by squirrels, friend of the owl. Tallgrass sings songs of happiness and sorrow. This trio brings gravel road vocals, quick-picked strings, and a rhythm section with stomping ground sound. While they've got a banjo, you can't call it bluegrass- just expect some dirt stomping soul. Three-part harmonies backed by drums, bass, guitar, and banjo grow big rhythm into heartfelt, original music.

Policulture

Drinking in a Rock & Roll brew laced with harmony and melody, Michael honed his guitar skills with a myriad of bands. With VDK…, hundreds of shows and thousands of miles over more than a decade produced numerous moments laced with applause, laughter, cheers and critical acclaim. The single, “When I See Her” from ‘American Lights’, was featured in the motion picture “Deal” starring Burt Reynolds and produced by Seven Arts Pictures / MGM.

They are a bluegrass band that would satisfy a picky old-timer and delight fans of newgrass, a delicate balance indeed. They've become known for winning over crowds with creative, fun original songs that flow from the mountains, through them and right back to you. Pure Mountain Music!
