The Tulip Fairy and Elf Festival welcomes spring back to Boulder Sunday, April 7th on the Pearl Street Mall

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

[Boulder, CO]  March 12, 2019  –   There is no better indication of spring’s arrival in Boulder than the annual Tulip Fairy and Elf Festival. Every April, the Downtown Boulder Partnership throws a springtime celebration to welcome / celebrate the tulips on the Pearl Street Mall.

This year’s Tulip Fairy & Elf Festival will take place on Sunday, April 7, 2019 (with a rain date on April 14).  Downtown Boulder’s official Tulip Fairy, along with a few hundred pint-sized fairies & elves will enjoy a host of activities and performances on the Pearl Street Mall between
1 – 5 pm. The performance schedule is listed below and will take place on the 1300 block of the Pearl Street Mall:

1:00 - 1:45 pm    Alice in Wonderland - Boulder Performing Arts

4:00 - 5:00 pm    Waking the Bear - Jeff & Paige

In addition, over a dozen community organizations & businesses will host children’s activities on the 1200-1400 blocks of the Pearl Street Mall.  Kids will enjoy foam sword dueling; art projects;  face painting; nature activities, cookie decorating and more. New this year: prAna will host a free kid’s yoga class on the Courthouse Lawn from 3 - 4 pm.

The Tulip Fairy & Elf Festival celebrates the gorgeous tulips that are planted each year along the Pearl Street Mall.  The tradition started in the late 70s, when Boulder’s then sister city, Meppel, Holland would send 5,000 tulip bulbs annually to be planted along the Mall.  A form of this tradition continues to this day when every fall the City of Boulder’s Parks Department plants 15,000 brand new tulip bulbs that are imported directly from Holland.   With some help from Mother Nature over the winter months, the tulips start to peek out of the ground sometime between late March and early April.

The Tulip Fairy & Elf Festival is a free event and costumes are encouraged. The public can learn more at TulipFairyFestival.com.  Details about the rain date will be updated on the website by 10 am on April 7 if needed.

The Tulip Fairy and Elf Festival is produced by the Downtown Boulder Partnership and presented by Capital One Café.  The event is sponsored by the City of Boulder Parking & Access, Daily Camera and Eldorado Natural Spring Water.
