The Downtown Boulder Partnership’s Annual Luncheon Will Highlight The Future of Downtown Retail

Michael Berne, the Founder and President of MJB Consulting will present initial finds and recommendations for the Downtown Boulder Partnership from a 2017 Retail Strategy Study along with the annual awards presentation.

[Boulder, CO]  January 30, 2018 –  On Friday, February 2nd,  250 attendees will be present at the Downtown Boulder Partnership’s (DBP) Annual Awards Luncheon.  The sold out affair will take place at the St Julien Hotel & Spa from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. 

The key note address will be given by Michael Berne, MJB Consulting Founder & President.  Berne will share initial findings & recommendations for the DBP based on a retail strategy study that was conducted in 2017 in partnership with the City of Boulder’s Community Vitality Department.  Berne is one of North America's leading experts on urban and “urbanist” retailing, and has been a keynote/featured speaker at annual conferences of the International Downtown Association (IDA), the National Main Street Center, the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) and the Urban Land Institute (ULI).

In addition to the keynote, DBP will present their annual awards to outstanding downtown businesses and business owners in the following categories:

Business of the Year – Tech Stars:
The Business of the Year award is given to a downtown business that has contributed to the quality and diversity of downtown through outstanding innovation, exemplary customer service and/or significant economic impact.  The business of the year can be a new or long-time business downtown whose presence has made a significant impact on the downtown landscape.

The George Karakehian Community Service Award –  Bonnie Dahl, Savvy On Pearl:
The George Karakehian Community Service Award was established in 2015 and is presented to an individual that has demonstrated commitment to social responsibility and exemplified strong community involvement.  This person has gone above and beyond the call of duty to be of service to the entire downtown community.

The Ron Porter Achievement Award – Sam and Cheryl Sussman, former owners of Eight Days A Week:
The Ron Porter Achievement Award is designated for an individual who exemplifies Downtown Boulder ideals by donating time, positive energy, and expertise.  Individual(s) has noteworthy accomplishments, long-standing contributions to the downtown community, and an array of community service efforts.   This is a lifetime achievement award for longtime participation in and service to Downtown Boulder.
