House Guests with Ramble on Pearl
Connie & Andy Minden were inspired to open Ramble on Pearl in large part by their daughter and her peers with developmental disabilities in Boulder County. As a social enterprise, their clothing boutique serves as a classroom to teach job skills and provide work experience to adults with developmental disabilities as a pathway to independent employment. After 3 years, 15 of their program graduates have secured jobs with wonderful employers throughout the community. And for shoppers, Ramble features the latest fashions from a broad range of men’s and women’s active lifestyle clothing designers, including local brands Krimson Klover and Sherpani. Saturdays are a great day to show out of town visitors all that Downtown Boulder has to offer - especially in the warm summer months. We usually start with the Boulder County Farmers Markets, where we get a quick bite to eat and a coffee from one of the stands, or something more substantial from the food trucks before selecting fresh local produce to take home later or if they are in season, the awesome Palisade’s peaches to eat right then.
Next we’ll go for a stroll along the Boulder Creek Path before heading back to the bricks to look for some great used book finds at the Boulder Book Store, or see who might have shown up for a book signing - last summer we met Al Franken! Then we head east to Organic Sandwich Company to refuel on some really unique sandwich combinations that are simply delicious. We particularly like to patronize Organic Sandwich Company because they hired one of our graduate apprentices who has been with them almost 2 years now.
Next we’ll head back to the bricks to check out a few of the amazing street performers and stop in on some of our favorite stores. Zoe at the Pedestrian Shops has a great variety of shoes on offer and has also been a great supporter of Ramble, lending shoes to our apprentices when we’ve put on Fashion Shows. And just next door we like to check out the Boulder Arts & Crafts Gallery that has a lot of locally produced items you just can’t get anywhere else.
To finish off the day, and support yet another employer who has hired one of our graduates, our last stop is Ted's Montana Grill for a bison burger that goes down well with a local craft beer or a bison steak with one of their great selections of red wine.
