Boulder is a wonderful place for families, and offers a variety of activities for children of all ages and interests.
Downtown Boulder has many family events for children all year round. During the spring and summer months Boulder offers a variety of family events such as, the Tulip Fairy and Elf Parade and the weekly Outdoor Cinema. Throughout the warm months you will find street performers creating balloon animals or juggling fire, each a unique form of entertainment for all ages to enjoy and be awed.
There are many locations for children to splash, climb, and run in Downtown Boulder. In the hot summer months children can cool off in the Pop Jet Fountain (open June through September - weather permitting), where water spouts up from the ground! On the East Side of the Pearl Street Mall there are animal statues where children are welcome to climb and play. Another favorite for children are the big rocks on the bricks between 13th and Broadway. Gear up for playtime for the younger children at Real Baby and older children at Savvy on Pearl; no one said you can’t look good while being adventurous!
Choo choo!In the summer, the Tebo Train runs up and down the Pearl Street Mall most mornings. This is a free train ride for kids (and parents too!). It is a great way to relax those legs and enjoy a few minutes in the shade while the conductor takes you for a spin around the bricks of the mall.
Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall Downtown Boulder has events that are great for families. The Boulder Creek Festival on Memorial Day weekend is always a favorite for all ages. Families can enjoy music, food, artwork of all kinds, and even rides for the kids. The festival ends with a rubber ducky race down the Boulder Creek! This Festival is a great kick off for a fun-filled season for your family and children! In September visit our Fall Festival, which offers a children’s’ carnival, art show, and live music for the whole family.
When it comes to Holidays, Downtown Boulder doesn’t miss a beat! At Halloween, families and children of all ages can enjoy our annual Munchkin Masquerade downtown, where you kids can trick or treat along the mall and show off their Halloween costume! For the holiday season, families gather downtown for some caroling at our Switch on the Holidays event. Santa Claus then kicks off the illumination of the malls holiday lights, the lighting of the courthouse, and the star on Flagstaff Mountain. Santa will be on Pearl Street for St. Nick on the Bricks on Saturdays before Christmas, so your children can come see the jolly old man, sit on his lap, get a free picture, and whisper their gift wishes. In the spring another Boulder tradition favorite is the Tulip Fairy and Elf Parade where Elves and fairies wake up over 15,000 tulips on the Pearl Street Mall.
Boulder has plenty to offer, so those of all ages will never be disappointed. Whether it’s simply flying a kite from Into the Wind in one of the numerous parks, reading a favorite story from Boulder Bookstore, or renting a bike from Full Cycle, Downtown Boulder has it all! On the hot summer months families can go cool off in the fresh water of the Boulder Creek or in the cold winter months go enjoy the latest exhibit at Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art. Rain, sun or snow Boulder has something to do that every member of the family can enjoy!
