Category: Boulder Blog

It’s that time of year…your kids are out of school and eager to make the most of their summer. This season is the perfect time to get out of the house and create meaningful memories- as well as give you a well-deserved break. To help out all parents and caregivers, we have curated a list of engaging things to do this summer in downtown Boulder. We have included a list of free activities outlined below, as well as a section for paid summer camps, workshops and classes. We hope this helps you ease into the summer season!

Fun in the Pop Jet Fountains

Want to beat the heat? The Pearl Street Mall  Pop Jet Fountains are the place to be! This fun way to cool off is located on Pearl Street Mall’s 1300 block from approximately Memorial Day through Labor Day. The small water fountains are a great place for your young kids to run around, splash and play in the water. After spending some time cooling off, make sure to stop by Ruthie’s Boardwalk Social, located next to the fountains. Ruthie’s is known for their fresh lemonade, the perfect summer treat. They also serve gooey grilled cheeses for a bite on-the-go.

Play Time

Just need a place to let your kids run around? Pearl Street Mall’s play structures are built for you!  Let your kids roam among marble and brass animal statues on the 1400 block, or enjoy watching them climb and play on the rock structures located on the 1200 block. And on the 1100 block, the Slippery Rock and split rock also provide fun entertainment for kids of all ages!

Women shopping at farmers market

Fun at the Farmers Market

Every Wednesday evening from 4 - 8 pm and Saturday morning from 8 am - 2 pm, stock up on fresh produce from local vendors at the Boulder County Farmers Market. With live music, unique food and awesome handmade products, the market is a great activity to teach young ones about shopping and dining locally.

In the mood for some shopping? Be sure to head into Rocket Fizz this summer. There is no better place to take your kids for their candy cravings. (Don’t miss out on their uniquely flavored bottled soda pops!) Into the Wind, another of downtown Boulder’s one-of-a-kind vendors, produces incredible handcrafted kites and toys, inspiring all of us to get out there and enjoy the wind! This is the perfect place to stop in with your kids and marvel at colorful trinkets and toys.
