Friday's Before CU Home Football Games the Buffs Take Over the Pearl Street Mall
Boulder, CO [September 8, 2023]- The Pearl Street Stampedes have been marching through Downtown Boulder every night before CU home football games for the past 19 years. This season, the energy and excitement are more palpable than ever.
Hundreds of Buffs fans are expected to line the Pearl Street Mall to enjoy the sounds of the Golden Buffalo Marching Band, watch the CU Colorado Spirit Squad perform and to cheer on members of CU athletic teams and coaching staffs.
For nearly two decades (minus the 2020 season), the Pearl Street Stampedes bring CU fans, local residents and out-of-town visitors to the heart of Boulder for this one-of-a-kind pep rally. This event was the brainchild of CU's then Athletic Director, Mike Bohn. Led by Stephen Tebo’s vintage 1948 fire truck, members of the Golden Buffalo Marching Band and CU Spirit Squad perform for fans starting on the 1300 block of Pearl Street (in front of the County Courthouse) moving west, stopping along the 1200 block and 1100 block to entertain crowds along the way!
"The Stampedes are a local favorite tradition in downtown Boulder," said Terri Takata-Smith, Downtown Boulder Partnership's Interim CEO. "Faithful Buffs fans and the entire downtown business community have been showing their love for the hometown teams year after year. This season, there is definitely more excitement and optimism than ever before! We are so grateful for our partnership with the University and look forward to many more opportunities in the years to come to closely align the downtown district, CU and University Hill."
