EVENT CATEGORY: Workshops & Meetings
"To understand poetry as an art," writes poet Kim Addonizio," is to understand that it is the same as every art, every discipline. It is work. Work that you struggle with and sometimes turn from in frustration or even despair. But also beautiful work you can go to in times of stress and loss.”
Designed for anyone interested in writing poetry, this 6-week workshop will ask two questions: why poetry matters, and how, exactly, good poems are made. Each week we'll read and discuss contemporary poems in various styles, and respond through creative exercises. Participants will compose and revise original poems, gather feedback from the group and instructor, and gain a deeper understanding of their personal poetic style. Together we’ll explore voice, imagery, structure, word choice, line, and other elements of poetry in a stimulating and supportive environment.
