Le Macchiole is one of the most iconic, important estates of the Tuscan coast. Located in Bolgheri, Le Macchiole produces a handful of incredible monovarietal wines. “Paleo Rosso,” is arguably the greatest Cabernet franc made in Tuscany, if not all of Italy, and seems to get better each vintage. Their Syrah bottling, “Scrio,” is the Hermitage of Italy, no other Italian Syrah can come close. Finally their Merlot, “Messorio,” is incredible, rivaling Ornellaia’s iconic Masseto. Even their entry level Bolgheri Rosso is fantastic. Simply put, it is hard to beat the wines of Le Macchiole. In years past we have had Gianluca Putzolu for high end, intimate “tastemaker dinners” and they were a hit. When the importer reached out and offered to have Gianluca back at Frasca for a Monday night, there was no question. This is an incredible opportunity to taste some of Tuscany’s most luxurious, limited wines.
