The Downtown Boulder Race Series Signature Event, the Pearl Street Mile, happens Wednesday, July 10

Following the mile run, participants and spectators will enjoy a performance by That Eighties Band during Bands on the Bricks


[Boulder, CO]  July 3, 2013.  After Downtown Boulder, Inc.’s (DBI) extremely successful 2013 launch of the Downtown Boulder Race Series with the West End 3K in June, DBI staff is preparing for the Pearl Street Mile immediately followed by Bands on the Bricks on Wednesday, July 10, 2013.

Under the new direction of Downtown Boulder, Inc. (DBI), this long standing tradition – which includes the West End 3K, Pearl Street Mile and the East End 2K -  now in its 16th year welcomes members of Boulder’s elite running community, as well as running (and walking) enthusiasts of all ages and abilities.  The race starts and finishes on Pearl & 14th streets.  

This year’s Pearl Street Mile features competitive & non-competitive waves as well as a  kids’ half-mile wave.   The race will kick off at 5:45 p.m. with an exclusive Downtown Business wave.  Downtown-based companies are encouraged to enter teams of three to compete for bragging rights and a traveling trophy courtesy of Newtown Running. Prizes will be awarded to the overall top male and female competitors; top masters finishers; and top age group finishers.  All kids will receive a commemorative  ribbon.

Online registration (DowntownBoulderRaces.com) closes on July 7.   Participant costs through July 9 are $20 (ages 2-11) and $25 adults.  In-person registration (and packet pickup) happens Tuesday, July 9 from 3-7 p.m. at Fleet Feet (2624 Broadway).  Race day registration ($25 ages 2-11 and $30 adults) will be held from 3:30 – 5:15 p.m. at the race site.

At the conclusion of the race, participants and spectators are invited to celebrate at Bands on the Bricks with a special performance by That Eighties Band who will take the stage (on the 1300 block) as soon as the race finishes (just after 7 p.m.).   Downtown Boulder’s Beer/Wine/Margarita Garden opens at 5:30 featuring brews by Avery and Rio Grande margaritas.

The Downtown Boulder Race Series is produced by DBI and sponsored by Newton Running, Daily Camera, Athleta, City of Boulder Parking Services, Fleet Feet, Boulder Running Company and Eldorado Natural Spring Water.
