Pearl Street Stampedes Bring the Buffs’ Spirit and Energy to Downtown Boulder

Category: Press Room

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

A one-of-a-kind pep rally returns this week to the heart of the city

Boulder, Colo. [August 29, 2016]: Pearl Street Stampedes are THE kickoff celebration for CU home football games.  Back for its 12th season, the Stampedes happen the evenings before each home game (except for the week of Thanksgiving).  The Pearl Street Stampedes draw hundreds of Buffs fans to the Pearl Street Mall as members of the Golden Buffalo Marching Band play to the crowds – stopping on each block to perform.  Members of the CU football team and coaching staff are greeted with cheers and high fives from fans of all ages.   The Stampedes were the brainchild of former CU Athletic Director Mike Bohn and is a joint collaboration between the University of Colorado, local businesses and Downtown Boulder, Incorporated (DBI).

Led by Stephen Tebo’s vintage 1948 fire truck, members of the Golden Buffalo Marching Band start performing at 7 p.m. on the 1300 block of Pearl Street (in front of the County Courthouse).  The Stampedes move west, stopping on the 1200 block and 1100 block for the band to perform.  Following the Stampedes, members of the band perform for guests in each of the sponsoring businesses’ locations.  (This year’s sponsors include:  Brasserie Ten Ten, Rio Grande Mexican Restaurant, Via Perla, The Med, Where the Buffalo Roam, Ted’s Montana Grill and Pasta Jay’s.)

CU’s annual Homecoming Parade and Pep Rally will take place downtown as an extended version of the October 14 Stampede.   This event will feature a more elaborate pep rally on the 1300 block in front of the County Courthouse.
