Downtown Insider with Topo Designs
Eric Reed moved to Colorado in 1996 and when he left in 2005, he promised himself that he would be back. It took him 10 years, but when he drove back in to town in 2015 he couldn't have been happier to return to the mountain lifestyle. Eric learned about Topo Designs and their Colorado Made Bags through the Fly Fishing Industry which he had worked in previously. When the opportunity to open and manage the new retail store on the West End of Pearl Street presented itself - he couldn't resist! He's been with Topo Designs ever since.
What I love about The West End of Pearl is that you can do so much. Start with Wonder Press. Depending on how I’m feeling I will go for the Butter Coffee or hit the “juice”. The Golden Citrus is my “go to” when I have to get my Vitamin C and Turmeric in for the day. Then roll up the street to the Mt. Sanitas Trailhead for a great heart thumper of a hike and great views. Once, you’re done with the hike you’ll need breakfast and nothing is better than Lucile’s Creole Café. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu, no joke! At this point your belly will be full so, why not take an easy walk along the Boulder Creek Trail to burn off that biscuit. I love to fly fish so, even if I don’t have my gear I will watch the creek for rising fish and plot my next fishing trip. If, you ever need any gear or a guided trip, stop over at Rocky Mountain Anglers. They are the “go to” shop for the local tips and tricks. During the summer, the people watching can be great with folks jumping into the cool water and tubing the rapids. But, even during the winter the creek wont disappoint with the sounds of the water and the wind through the trees. After, some time in nature its time to stroll the shops and prep for lunch. I have my favorites for my wife, my kids, and myself. I like stop at The Ritz for the occasional kids/adult costume necessity, I will check in on my friends over at Cedar and Hyde to see what Women’s fashions they are bringing to Boulder, a look at the fine jewelry at J. Albrecht Designs will always get me thinking about my wife, of course no adventure should start without a stop at the shop I run, Topo Designs, for my Colorado clothing and bag needs.
By now it’s time for that lunch spot, right next door to Topo Designs is the new Oskar Blues Taproom or across the street at the West End Tavern. You can’t go wrong with either. They both have great lunch specials and local beers, if you’re into that sort of thing…
With a nice Lunch “rest” and that Colorado sunshine in your face continue west my friend to stop into Nod & Rose for some more retail therapy. If your lucky you may even get to meet Nod or Rose while fingering through their selection of Clothing Brands, hard to find anywhere else. Its got to be 2 or 3 o’clock by now so, why not keep the caffeine ride going and skip over to Spruce Confections for some “Spruce Juice” I promise its not juice (strong cold brew). While you’re right there stop in and chat with the gentleman at Canoe Club learn something new about denim you didn’t know and maybe treat yourself or your favorite guy to something classic. Nothing feels better than giving and/or receiving.
Its got to be time for dinner so try Black Cat for some real farm to table foods and then maybe a show at the Boulder Theater, I just saw the Pixies there which was amazing… And if music and a crowd aren’t how you want to spend your night maybe just finish with a perfect cocktail at The Bitter Bar. This is just another perfect day in the West End. I hope you enjoyed the guide and if you have any questions come down to Topo Designs, I’m almost always here!
