Pearl Street Art:
As we all know, Boulder is not a stranger to the creative lifestyle. And by that I mean, people here love to express themselves in ways ranging from the things they wear, to the activities they do, and their overall outlook on life.
One of the many things I love about Downtown Boulder is the street art I see every day walking around downtown. From the West End all the way to the East End, no wall, newspaper stand, or building is ordinary thanks to the talent of these artists.
From East to West:
9th & Pearl: Right outside the front door of Yellow Deli lies a very exotic birdcage, and by birdcage I mean a newspaper stand covered in jungled themed birds. Definitely a fan favorite
13th & Pearl: Biergarten’s building definitely stands out due to its German atmosphere and architecture, but one thing people don't usually notice is the colorfully painted brick wall that is located in its alley. Don't believe me? Take a look for yourself.
Broadway & Canyon: Located just below the overpass along the Boulder Creek Path lies one of the newest murals added to the city. Whether you’re biking, running, or just taking a casual stroll under the bridge, a swirl of vibrant color can be seen painted on the wall. The pattern coupled with the design of the brick really screams “hey you there, yeah you, notice me!”
19th & Pearl: Let’s be real here, who doesn't love a good mind-blowing laser show? No one? That’s what I thought. Although the lasers may not be real, you can definitely expect the same “WOW” reaction when seeing this mural on the side of Victors & Spoils advertising agency.
20th & Pearl: Painted in the alley behind Peerless Tires, I would say this mural is definitely one of Downtown Boulder’s most hidden masterpieces. Most people don't usually find themselves aimlessly wandering around the alleys of Boulder (besides me apparently), but this geometric gem is a sight for sore eye. Please, take my word for it.
21st & Pearl: Voodoo’s charm doesn't only work on your hair, but also your eyes. This building, drenched in a collage of totally awesome artwork, will definitely work some magic on you.
21st & Pearl: I don't know about you, but this mural reminds me floating smoke - in a more colorful and aesthetically pleasing way. But hey, this is a very abstract piece of art so please, be an art critic here and take away your own interpretation. As someone somewhere once said, “beauty is in the eye of the beholder”.
21st & Pearl: I honestly love this mural because it’s like you’re getting a 2-for-1 special. For me, it's almost like looking at two contradicting things; on one hand you have a very beautiful painting of a woman, and then BAM, skulls of death. Gotta love the irony here.
So, if you haven't already seen the street art around this part of Boulder yet, I highly recommend coming down to Pearl street and checking them out yourself as you shop around the downtown area; there’s a lot more to this place than just the amazing shops and restaurants. I guess you’ll just have to check it out for yourself.
Until next time,
