Pineapple Upside Down Pancakes!?

Category: Boulder Blog

As if Boulder didn’t have enough great breakfast spots, the hippest place to enjoy a pancake in Denver has moved west.  Having spent last summer working in Denver, some locals introduced me to the only place anyone would be willing to wait 45 minutes for some morning deliciousness…Snooze!  And delicious it was!  Needless to say I was pleasantly stoked to hear a new Snooze branch was opening in Downtown Boulder.  Last Thursday, September 29th, Snooze opened a new location on Pearl Street’s east end nestled between Art & Soul Gallery and Momentum.

Personally I find Snooze’s move to Boulder to be a perfect fit.  Snooze’s business model is as sustainable and innovative as Boulderites themselves.  They buy their eggs exclusively from Niman Ranch (free range, family owned…basically as organic as it gets) and the restaurants follow a list of sustainability principles including recycling, composting, and using chemical free cleaners.  But wait, there’s more!

I’m sure half of you will agree with me when I say that half the fun of eating out is the atmosphere.  The ambiance of Snooze makes the experience a lot of fun.  I want to call it retro 50’s, but it reminds me a lot of the Jetson’s.  Confused?  Well, after further research, I discovered what they were actually going for:  “The Snooze concept, beyond great food, was to create a comfortable and timeless setting.  Energy through design, from flow to the feelings invoked. This vibe is reflected in both the space, and the service. Snooze has the comfort of a neighborhood coffee shop, while evoking a retro-future spin.  It's fun. ”

But enough of this jibber jabber, let’s get down to business and discuss what’s really important here…THE FOOD!  Ladies and gentlemen, I have 4 words for you, Pineapple Upside Down Pancakes!  Not even mentioning Snooze’s plethora of breakfast options (including four different types of Eggs Benedict, my personal fav) I would have to say that Snooze’s pancakes are their specialty.  Walking a fine line between meal and dessert the pancakes are definitely worth a try (or two, or three).  Always ask what the pancake of the day is because it’s usually something especially decadent.  They even offer a “Pancake Flight” so if you can’t decide which flavor to try, just try a bunch!  Careful, I see a food coma in your future.

They serve coffee while you wait…so courteous.  So let’s be courteous back!  Give our newest Boulder restaurant a try.  You won’t regret it :)
